Alonso does not expect miracles for his 300th Grand Prix

This weekend on the Gilles Villeneuve circuit in Montreal, Fernando Alonso will take part in its 300th Grand Prix weekend. The Spaniard will thus join a very closed clan where Rubens Barrichello, Michael Schumacher and Jenson Button.

An important milestone in the career of the double world champion who will then head towards Sarthe and the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Toyota. Mais un rendez-vous qui pourrait ne pas sourire au clan de Woking.

« It will certainly be a difficult circuit for us, but we are progressing with our package race by race, Alonso analyzes. A few specific circumstances or changing weather conditions as encountered in Canada in the past could provide us with opportunities. It's up to us to take advantage of all the possibilities. »

Fernando Alonso won in 2006 with Renault in Montreal, while McLaren remains the most successful manufacturer at this meeting with 13 successes.

The last Woking driver to win on Quebec soil remains Lewis Hamilton in 2012, a year after the memorable victory of Jenson Button, who passed in front Sebastian Vettel (then pilot Red Bull) in the final moments of an ordeal that lasted more than four hours.

But for Eric Boullier and the McLaren management, this time it is the points which remain the main objective, McLaren having experienced its first zero points of the year in Monaco.

“It is important that we focus on the most representative grid positions possible to be able to fight on Sunday, admits the Frenchman. We've had a few tough weekends, so hopefully in Montreal we can see further progress and bring home some points. »
