Alonso: “Not as fast as at Monza”

After getting on the podium at Monza, Fernando Alonso has a lead of 37 points over its closest rival Lewis Hamilton. If the pilot of the Team focuses on his most dangerous opponent in the Championship, Red Bull showed a renewed form with Pirelli's soft tires on the Singapore circuit where Sebastian Vettel won last year. The German was also the fastest in Friday's tests on the Singaporean urban track, Fernando Alonso finishing the day a little more than five tenths behind the reference time. The Spaniard worked with a F2012 lacking grip, with teammate Felipe Massa taking ninth place almost two seconds behind.

“We tested different elements on the car, some seem positive, others less so, but perhaps we need more time on track to develop them as best as possible”, comments Fernando Alonso, who won on the streets of Singapore in 2010. “I would say it was a positive day, although my first impression is that we are not as competitive as at Monza. We lack performance on this type of track where the aero downforce must be high. From what we have seen, there is a significant difference between the two types of tires (soft and super soft) but we will have to wait until tomorrow to have a clear idea of the situation. The difference was perhaps a little exaggerated today with the evolution of the surface. Testing the tires over a long distance is very complicated on a circuit like this because it's difficult to compare with our opponents and we are also hampered by the traffic. I think the degradation will be limited on Sunday and that we will be able to manage it. »
