Back at a press conference in Montreal after the Indianapolis 500, Fernando Alonso was asked about his future within McLaren.
« We have to win, says the Spaniard, if we win in September, when I make my decision, then I will stay."
The two-time world champion commented on comments from Zak Brown, McLaren's executive director, who said the Woking team needed to think about the future of its collaboration with Honda. The Asturian rider affirmed that the presence or absence of Honda in 2018 will not influence his own decision.
« Zak's (Brown) comments are what we expect him to say. Things have to change, I want to win and conquer this third title and today we are clearly not in a position to do so.
“If you’re not in a position to be competitive, then you change your plans. »
