Alonso: Vettel 'does the best job'

Fernando Alonso had a frustrating season last year. After leading the Championship with a good lead over Sebastian Vettel, the Asturian watched helplessly as the German returned to the top of the Championship when he took advantage of a Red Bull RB8 in a state of grace. The Asturian did not hide his frustration by indicating that he had the feeling of fighting more against Adrian Newey, the technical director of Milton Keynes, who designed a car almost untouchable.

But the double world champion wanted to change his remarks this year while he is 34 points behind the German. “We are now fighting against Sebastian,” said the pilot of the Team in Auto Bild. “I said in the second half of the season (2012) that I was no longer fighting against Sebastian or Mark (Webber) but against a plane, Red Bull was so competitive. Maybe some people misunderstood what I said, I just meant that it was difficult to fight against a car that could potentially finish first or second in every race. This is no longer the case this year. Sebastian is in front because he does the best work. »

Despite falling behind the Championship leader who is aiming for a fourth consecutive title this year, Fernando Alonso is far from having abandoned his hopes even if the Red Bull driver remains on a victory won for the first time on his land at the Nürburgring. “As long as we are not 50 or 60 points behind him, we will not give up. Sebastian was 44 points behind last year and still managed to win the title at the end of the season. Everything is possible. »
