In previous years, the Williams was a real fighter plane, almost impossible to overtake in a straight line. On circuits like Monza, that's where she was strongest, undeniably. The year 2024, however, is very different. The Grove team works differently, it thinks and acts above all in the long term. This new mentality was established a little over a year ago, with the arrival of James Vowles, the team principal of the team.

Today, the FW46 does not have at all the same strengths as its predecessors; it does much better on the circuits with more downforce, which was its great weakness before. Overall, the car is more complete and easier for Alex to understand Albon et Logan sargeant. “We have a car that is significantly better balanced than last year, explains James Vowles. It's also much better in a variety of conditions – whether it's windy, whether it's wet or whether it's dry. There are several elements that are simply better than before. »

Monaco, a good track for Williams?

We would never have heard it in past seasons but Monaco, the “slowest” circuit on the calendar, could well be a track that would suit Williams perfectly. At least that’s what his main British team thinks.

“Surprisingly, Monaco could also be a strong track for the car. But what we're really seeing at the moment is a race for development, a race for aerodynamic development, between the teams, and we need to make sure that we are fighting at the front, which could bring us closer to the points. »

For now, Williams has still not scored any points. But there is no panic in the British clan, if the team works well and continues in this direction, it is convinced of securing the top 10. Last year, at the same stage of the season, it had only scored 'a small point (in Bahrain); his season really got underway in Canada, with a 7th place for Albon.

Before settling down in the Principality, Williams makes a stop at the Miami circuit. For this round, James Vowles thinks that “do better than last year”, without having mentioned the idea of being close to the points. As a reminder, in 2023, Alex Albon finished 14th, around ten seconds from 10th place and Logan Sargent finished last in the race.
