Alonso will aim for the podium at the Hungarian GP

Fernando Alonso had not started from fifth position on the grid since his national Grand Prix in Barcelona. The pilot Ferrari secured the third row at the start of the Hungarian GP by finishing less than half a second from pole achieved by Lewis Hamilton. “This fifth position is good news after two difficult weekends at Silverstone and the Nürburgring, and even more so after seeing things improve compared to the day before when our race pace gave us even more doubts. We were more competitive today thanks to the set-up changes and aero modifications, where we were looking for more consistency than pure performance. Traction and corner entry have improved. »

On the Hungarian Tourniquet where overtaking is dangerous, the double world champion hopes to take the advantage at the start to aim for a podium and prevent the leader Sebastian Vettel to escape, the Red Bull driver starting from second position. “We will be looking to gain several places at the start and I will take advantage of the right side of the track to do so. It's difficult to overtake here and it's even more important to take a direct lead, particularly if we want to prevent Vettel from increasing his lead. The strategy will be very open, the tires are new for everyone and the high temperatures mean being able to change this strategy at any time. The podium is always our goal and I think we will be able to fight for the top three, although we know it will be difficult with such adversity facing us. »
