New episode in the squabble between Andretti and Stefano Domenicali. The president of the Formula 1 returned to the charge regarding the potential arrival of the American clan in the discipline. At the start of the year, Michael Andretti described the F1 teams as greedy, who “only care about themselves, and don’t think about what’s best for the future of sport in general”. In an interview with Sky Sports in mid-February, the former director of the Team responded to Mario Andretti's son, believing that his recent statements had not been very intelligent according to him.

“We are very welcoming to everyone who brings value to racing. I think we have to respect everyone. There are teams like Mario and Michael Andretti who do not hide their desire to enter Formula 1. But in my opinion, it is not smart to say that the teams are hungry., declared Stefano Domenicali on the subject.

“A process to respect” despite pressure from Andretti

The potential arrival of an eleventh team on the grid is raising eyebrows within the paddock, with reluctance on the part of the teams but also on the part of Formula 1 itself. On the other hand, the FIA – through the voice of its president Mohammed Ben Sulayem – has not hidden its intention to expand the field in the years to come. The governing body even launched a call for applications process for the opening of the F1 grid by 2026-2027.

Stefano Domenicali recognizes that Andretti is a credible potential candidate but criticizes the American team's communication. “Others [candidates] are much less vocal and would like to enter Formula 1. So there is a process to respect and we will ensure, with the FIA, that this process will be respected, wanted to remind the president of F1. There are many dimensions to consider and we don't have to overreact because someone is pushing the system. The process will be done the right way, seriously, whether someone shouts or someone doesn't shout. »
