The Brawn GPs are always disconcertingly easy, even on the particular Monaco track. Following in the footsteps of the Brazilian, Massa and Hamilton stood out during the first free practice session.

Barrichello confirms the trend

Even if the layout of the principality circuit is very particular and does not generally represent the hierarchy of the paddock, Rubens Barrichello once again took the Brawn GP to the head of the single-seaters on the grid. THE Ferrari however, confirmed their improvement and their return to the forefront. At the start of the session, Felipe Massa and Kimi Räikkönen monopolized the first two places, going under 1?20?? while many drivers were testing the developments of their car.

It is then Lewis Hamilton who stood out, achieving a very good time placing him at the top of the hierarchy, a time which he would not however be able to improve before the end of the session (1:17:578). Felipe Massa approached then passed him (1:17:499), before seeing Rubens Barrichello set the reference time for the morning, in 1:17:189. Fourth, Heikki Kovalainen confirmed the good behavior of the McLarens, as well as the Ferraris with Räikkönen's fifth time. THE Williams followed the pace with the sixth and seventh times of Nakajima and Rosberg, while Button set the eighth time without forcing.
