The numerous postponements to the calendar of the F1 will make the objective of having 15 to 18 Grands Prix covered over the entire 2020 season difficult. The championship organizers are nevertheless evaluating options to stay the course in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Principal Team of the Team Ferrari's Mattia Binotto revealed on Sky Sport Italia that the 2020 season could continue next year, now that the future technical regulations have been postponed for a year. Former F1 director Bernie Ecclestone, for his part, indicated thathe believed that the 2020 season should be canceled given the circumstances.
“We have discussed with the other team bosses and the FIA, these are decisive moments. The calendar is crucial, both for the discipline and the show, but also for the teams and the organizers. We have decided to give total freedom to the FIA to resume competition as quickly as possible”he said.
“We evaluated different hypotheses such as competing in two or three races in January or canceling free practice”, said the Italian.
The organizers will have to find compromises while facing numerous constraints, particularly in terms of weather if the postponed races were to take place in winter.
