BMW, back to the forefront

Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld probably did not expect to be at such a party this Saturday. In the middle of a gloomy season, where good results have been very rare, the Spa-Francorchamps circuit represents a real ray of sunshine for the team?Hinwil. Far from giving up, BMW was able to raise the bar in order to see a good end to the season. “ After BMW?s announcement to withdraw from motorsport, we worked to secure the future of the Hinwil team. Today?s result is therefore very important for the team and is a great reward. No one gave up during this difficult period. »

The German driver, third in qualifying, thinks that the reduction in the aerodynamic load on the single-seaters may have changed the situation. “ This is why the starting grid is so different from previous races. » And Nick Heidfeld does not shy away from his pleasure at seeing himself to his advantage at Spa, being able to count on a car which corresponds to it. “We made some modifications and I am happy with the balance of the car.

For his part, Robert Kubica is less satisfied with his performance. Yet fifth at the end of the qualifying session, the Pole expects better from his car. “ Yesterday we were competitive. But when we changed the engine this morning, I immediately lost speed on the straights. Unfortunately, we were not able to resolve the issue before qualifying. It's a shame because we have a competitive car for the first time this season. I hope we can resolve the issue by tomorrow. »
