Bottas surprised to beat Mercedes at Austrian GP

Valtteri Bottas knew after having completed a few laps of the track Red Bull Ring that Williams were competitive on the Austrian circuit. Free practice showed that the Grove cars were the closest to the Mercedes and the Finn could hope for good results in qualifying. The Scandinavian finally finds himself for the first time in his career on the front row of a Grand Prix alongside his teammate Felipe Massa author of the pole, after taking advantage of the poor performances of the drivers of the German team and Red Bull who are playing at home.

If the Williams will have difficulty maintaining their advantage on the Spielberg circuit which favors overtaking, the drivers of the British team can still hope for a solid result for the race. “It’s quite obvious that our car is competitive, it delivered very good performance,” declared Valtteri Bottas, relayed by ESPNF1.com. “We were comfortable with both types of tires from the first day of testing. We suspected that Mercedes was a little heavier (with fuel this morning). The gap was not very significant, perhaps because the circuit is not very big (4,326km) but it was still a little surprising. In any case, it’s a very good job on our part. »

The start of the Austrian Grand Prix will be given tomorrow at 14 p.m. and will be followed live on AUTOhebdo.fr. Click on this link to see photos from the weekend.
