Brawn in favor of hybrid

Discussions with engine manufacturers began with the objective of 2020 and the end of the agreement concerning the V6 turbo hybrids introduced in 2014.

« We are in the middle of a debate with engine manufacturers, constructors and engineering companies like Cosworth and Ilmor, pure motorsport manufacturers, and we are in the middle of a discussion, explains Ross Brawn during the F1 London Live.

« It's not really a question of looking for some sort of compromise that would please everyone because I don't think that's the right solution. »

Ross Brawn defends current hybrid technology in F1 by explaining the tactical possibilities it brings despite the many detractors of the V6 Turbo.

« Few people know it but yes Valtteri Bottas was able to pass Lance stroll in Baku, it was because he had kept some battery which he emptied in the final straight. He made tactical use of it.

“We have a lot of fans who want to go back to naturally aspirated engines, and you have to ask yourself why they want that. They will answer that it is the sound that provokes more emotion. So if we can create hybrid engines that make a similar sound, will things be better? »

Brawn accepts criticism of the turbo V6 but refuses a simple step backwards and is keen that lessons be learned from the use of current engines.
