After being banned for life from any activity in motorsport following the 'crashgate' affair, Flavio Briatore decided to fight back. The Italian, convicted of having instigated the accident of Nelson Piquet Junior during the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix, was heard by the Paris High Court after filing a petition against the FIA.
As expected, Briatore demanded one million euros in damages. His ?accomplice?, Pat Symonds, the former technical director of the team, demanded 500 euros. The two men also requested the cancellation of the sanctions taken by the FIA, namely the lifetime exclusion from any activity in motorsport for the first and the five-year suspension for the other.
« My client's ultimate goal is to be able to do what he wants and to be able to regain his freedom. Today he is someone who is calm and determined », explained to the press before the hearing Me Philippe Ouakrat, Flavio Briatore's lawyer.
The judgment was reserved on January 5, 2010.
