Button: Alonso more deserving than Vettel

Fernando Alonso had an exemplary season despite the lack of performance of his F2012. Except for his two retirements at the Belgian Grand Prix and at Suzuka (two accidents at the start), the double world champion finished in the points each time. The Asturian has three victories and no less than 12 podiums this year. But the pilot Ferrari must face the very good performances of Sebastian Vettel who returns to his state of grace at the end of the season with four consecutive victories and two other podiums in the last six races. The German thus has a 13-point lead over his only rival in the Championship before competing in the final this weekend in Sao Paulo.

However, Jenson Button believes that the title should go to Fernando Alonso as a reward for his efforts and his consistent performances over the season. “Fernando is probably the one who most deserves the title because he hasn't made any mistakes this year and he has always been fast”, said the pilot McLaren in the Interlagos paddock. “He did a really good job with the car he had. Seb (Vettel) was more irregular. He has been fantastic in the last few races with a superb car. Looking at the season, consistency has been one of the key points, and it's good to see that Fernando has been competitive in every race. His performances were very impressive. I said after the first race (in Australia) that I didn't think he would have a chance. He was a second away in qualifying, or even more. »
