Button: McLaren lacked speed in 2012

Jenson Button has had a difficult year at McLaren with a slump in the middle of the season putting a premature end to their title chances. His former teammate Lewis Hamilton was more efficient at the wheel of the MP4-27 but the 2008 world champion was troubled by multiple mechanical problems, which may have influenced his choice to leave Woking for Brackley. The second Briton will therefore find himself with the status of first driver next year since he will play alongside the young Sergio Pérez.

Both drivers are impatiently waiting to judge the level of performance of the British team's next car. But Jenson Button does not hide his disappointment at the end of this season and hopes to have a better machine in 2013. “Mechanical problems sometimes arise and things have to be rectified. But the hardest part for us was before the summer break where we just didn’t have any speed”, remembers the 2009 world champion. “The reason why we didn't play for the title is not only due to reliability problems, our speed at that time was not good enough compared to the others. We did 1400km during the young driver tests and we didn't have a single problem. I think we were a little unlucky. »
