Carlos Sainz Jr lined up by Toro Rosso in 2015

In the middle of the week, the French Jean-Eric Vergne formalized his departure de Toro Rosso. The 3.5 FR 2014 champion with the French DAMS team, Carlos Sainz Jr appeared more favorite than ever to take the second seat of the Faenza team alongside the Dutchman Max Verstappen in 2015. The announcement came this Friday afternoon.

« I'm really happy to have got the Toro Rosso wheel, admits the 20-year-old Spanish pilot. Since being part of the young pilot program of Red Bull, that has been my goal and I would like to thank Red Bull for placing their hopes in me. I had a very successful season in the World Series by Renault this year and now I can't wait to take the next step Formula 1. I did a day of testing with Toro Rosso last year and I liked the atmosphere in the team. In the coming months I will be working hard on my preparation, to be ready to slip into the cockpit at Jerez for the first test in 2015. It will be nice to make my official debut as an F1 driver in my home country . »

Carlos Sainz Jr recently rode the Red Bull RB10 during end-of-season testing in Abu Dhabi, and had long been on Toro Rosso shortlist for 2015. “We continue the Toro Rosso tradition of providing young people from the Red Bull Junior program with their first chance in Formula 1, says Franz Tost, Team Principal of the team. I have seen Carlos' progress through the junior categories, always improving and culminating in a well-deserved World Series victory this year. However, I also remember today's test with us at Silverstone in 2013 in the STR8. He surprised me, as did the engineers that day, with his mature approach and his speed. »
