That's it, the 2023 grid is complete. If it was almost there, it was still necessary that Logan sargeant locks the last available place at Williams. Announced as a starter for next season by Jost Capito on the sidelines of the United States Grand Prix last October, the Floridian still had to validate his Super License.

To obtain your precious sesame, obligatory to ride in F1, the Boca Raton native was expected to finish in the Top 6 of the championship. An affair well within his reach since he started the Abu Dhabi weekend at 3e position behind Theo Pourchaire (ART Grand Prix) and champion Felipe Drugovich (MP Motorsport). After the 3 points in the Sprint the day before, Logan Sargeant fulfilled his objective on Sunday during the Main Race.

Although under pressure since it was a place in F1 that was still at stake, the driver Carlin mastered his subject at Yas Marina. In slight difficulty at the start of the race, the Williams Academy protégé finally regained momentum over the laps to reach the finish in 5e position. Enough to complete 4e of the championship and above all to be promoted to starting driver at Williams alongside Alex Albon. The Grove team has confirmed the news: Logan Sargeant will become their 2nd starting driver for 2023! “It is a great honor and a dream come true to have the opportunity to compete in Formula 1 with Williams.”

Sargeant's relief

« We did everything right, he told us in Abu Dhabi. We had more pace than we showed in qualifying. We got back to the place today (Sunday) compared to the day before regarding speed. If we had had a cleaner race, we could have fought for the Top 3. I am very happy with the season achieved."

For a time considering the podium in Abu Dhabi, Logan Sargeant finally decided not to tempt the devil at the risk of losing very big. “ I had to find the ideal balance of the carHe says. Risk-taking is often rewarded. It's not that I didn't want to take it, but I still wanted to finish in the best possible position in the championship. For that, I had to attack. In the end I only finished one point behind 3e championship place. Considering the course of the race and the timing chosen to make the stop, I think we maximized our opportunities.

For the moment, I'm mostly happy to have made it to the end of the weekend. I feel like a big weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I felt like I had the weight of 15 years of hard work on my shoulders. I didn't want anyone to take it away from me. These are once-in-a-lifetime opportunities. Achieving this is very relaxing. I will take the time to rest to realize."

While he had for a time thought about moving away from motorsport (end of 2020 season), here is Logan Sargeant propelled to the forefront with a starting place in Formula 1. Which shows that we must never stop believing.
