Charles Pic in search of “balance” in Spa

Like all his counterparts, Charles Pic took advantage of the summer break to rest. “I had a great vacation in France with my family., confides the Frenchman. It?s always important to be able to recharge your batteries, especially as seven races outside Europe will follow. But I am more than ever ready to get back on the competitive path. »

A competition which restarts this weekend with the Belgian Grand Prix, on the legendary Spa-Francorchamps track. “This circuit is one of the classics, full of history, especially if we remember what it was, explains the Drômois. Today it is shorter, safer, but it remains a big challenge behind the wheel of a F1, whatever the weather! » A key factor in the Belgian Ardennes, where it is not uncommon to see the weather change completely in no time.

The longest course of the season with its 7,004 km over one lap, Spa is also one of the most technical meetings of the year. “We will endeavor, Friday and Saturday morning, to find a good balance with speed in the fast sections, such as the climb towards Les Combes, and support, essential in sector 2, in particular at Pouhon where the curve can be negotiated very quickly if the set-up is good, adds Charles Pic. Pinpointing the best settings and taking a quick trip to Spa are very strong feelings, both for the driver from his cockpit and for the fans observing the cars, like at Eau Rouge. This is F1! »

A unique entry therefore, on the Formula 1 calendar, where Caterham secretly dreams of achieving at least 12th place. A result which would then allow it to regain the 10th and very profitable position in the Teams Ranking, currently occupied by Marussia, the rival team.
