Claire Williams: “Improving the show”

“Several exciting and innovative changes to the format of qualifying and races are also being discussed and are being evaluated by the FIA and FOM for introduction in 2016.” This is the sentence that ended with the press release published Friday evening following the last meeting of the Strategic Group which had put forward several proposals and measures in the more or less short term, to modify the face of the F1. A possible evolution of the weekend format which aims to make the show more attractive according to the team managers present yesterday at a press conference at Silverstone in Great Britain.

“What we wanted to do right now is tell everyone that we have some new ideas that we're looking at and that we want to bring to improve the show for our fans, recalls Claire Williams, Team Principal-Assistant to Williams. The main objective is that we want to make our sport better, more exciting and more sustainable, looking at the different elements, whether it's new chassis regulations, looking at Power Units, costs, what fans want, media expectations, how we talk about our sport . »

The Briton, however, took care to point out that discussions were still ongoing, without revealing the possible avenues currently being studied. « The ideas we study are embryonic and we need to make sure we do a full analysis of it. It's very easy to come up with ideas in a meeting, then go out and talk about them in public, getting everyone excited. Not having really done the complete analysis can lead to disappointments and errors. »
