Contracts at Ferrari: Leclerc resigns, Sainz balks!

If the renewal of Charles Leclerc's contract with Ferrari for an indefinite period was expected, the absence of a decision concerning Carlos Sainz is a sign of shared hesitations. Within the Italian team and in the Spanish clan, we don't seem to be looking for the same thing!

Why is Ferrari extending with Leclerc?

Ferrari has long made it known that a renewal of its association with Charles Leclerc was in sight, the only question being how long the two parties were prepared to bind themselves together. Question to which the officialization last week of the Monegasque’s contract renewal for “ several additional seasons » beyond 2024 obviously did not respond. Does this contract run until the end of the 2029 financial year with a possible break clause after the third year as was suggested at the end of last season? It is very possible if we start from the principle that the Scuderia could not be satisfied with a classic contract – two years with an option for a third – concerning a talent which it considers to be a major asset, the kind of “franchise pilot” that we talk about a lot in this modern era of F1. Because if Ferrari remains a team like no other, it is nonetheless today one of the many teams which, from the point of view of competitiveness, does not manage to escape from the wake of Red Bull.
