In May 2020, the bride wasn't looking too good yet. The union took place even before the campaign – heavily disrupted by the pandemic – began. All smiles, sure of having signed for a bright tomorrow, Daniel Ricciardo was preparing to experience a final season with Renault. For his part, Zak Brown did not hide his joy at having finally managed to attract the Australian to McLaren. He had dreamed of it since the end of 2018 when he had already tried everything to get it back following the divorce with Fernando Alonso. Everything was going well in the best of all possible worlds in this 2020 season, where the Perth native's popularity was at its peak. Obviously, he had experienced some difficulties during his first season with Renault in 2019 – problems adapting to his car and his new environment – but was now ready to assume his role as a driving force in enstone before becoming that of Woking in 2021. Expected as the Messiah at McLaren, it did not take long, however, to experience the same problems as during his first season at Renault. Hiccups again attributed to his acclimatization to a new car philosophy, but which faded during the season. Better still, Ricciardo managed to win at Monza.
