On February 18, the FIA launched a call for tenders for the supply of a single gearbox from the 2021 season. The selected manufacturer will have to ensure the production, delivery, and maintenance of the part until the season. 2024 inclusive.
Initially, potential candidates had until Friday March 15 to submit their application. However, the FIA legal department has just made an official correction to push back the date to Tuesday March 19 at 12:00 p.m.
The federal authority justifies the decision by explaining that it wants “ encourage the submission of offers ". The other deadlines contained in the February 18 call for tenders remain unchanged. The FIA will thus choose the supplier of the standardized box between April 15 and 30, 2019.
Remember that in addition to specialists like Xtrac and Hewland, the teams themselves can apply and equip the entire peloton as is done for example McLaren with the universal electronic box.
