The other feat of the weekend, it was perhaps he who achieved it: far from the photographers' flashes for the podium of Fernando Alonso, Alexander albon managed to win a point with his Williams in Bahrain. A small feat for the Grove team, which had not scored points in an opening round since 2017 with Felipe Massa. A first point which calls for others, as the rhythm of the FW45 was similar to the other single-seaters. The Thai, delighted and surprised to have finished in the top 10, confided that he did not expect to be so competitive.

“It’s a bit of a shock!, he exclaimed after the inaugural Grand Prix. We had a very good start, we gained a few positions, we had a very good strategy and we were flexible with it. If you had told me that we would finish in the points when we arrived this weekend, I don't know what I would have done with you! But it was pretty special and not just for me, Logan [Sergeant] was pretty fast too, we were both there and fighting. »

Good days ahead for Williams?

Has Williams found the recipe to (finally) confront the mid-table teams? After several years spent in the bottom of the rankings, the British team was far from ridiculous on Sunday during the Grand Prix. “We were on different packages this weekend and in the end they both worked pretty well, said Alexander Albon. I know there is more pace in the car and I hope we can show that in the next few races. I am obviously very happy and I thank the team for all their work. »

After this 10th place for the first race of the season, Williams could claim a higher place in the hierarchy in the constructors' standings. Coming last in 2022 with 8 points, James Vowles' team intends to make a leap forward this year. "I said it before, everyone looks at itAston Martin, but we have also made incredible progress. It's harder to see because we're not on the podium, but we've made good steps forward.", underlines Albon. Williams could also count on the setbacks of other opponents – McLaren et Haas in particular – to hope to pocket big points.
