Injured in Williams garage fire

The Spanish Grand Prix will have had multiple surprises in store but the paddock would have done without the last one. While the staff of Williams celebrated Pastor Maldonado's victory by posing in the team's garage, an explosion took place 90 minutes after the end of the race. The cause of this explosion remains unexplained. The SREC of an FW34 had been questioned but the hypothesis now points to a fuel tank.

Several people were injured in the fire, most of them inhaling smoke which quickly spread throughout the paddock. Caterham has just announced that four members of its staff had been taken to hospital (three suffering from poisoning and one with burns to the hand with a fractured thumb). Others from Williams and Force India also appear to have suffered the consequences of the fire. Four members of the British team were sent to the medical center for tests while one person from the Indian team was reportedly treated after suffering smoke intoxication. In total, 31 people were evacuated to medical centers or hospitals.
