Trouble-free testing for Pirelli

After a full season with V6 turbo/hybrid Power Unit technology, the teams lined up for the first session of winter testing in Jerez this week were able to clock up many more kilometers than last year at the same time. Enough to satisfy Pirelli who was able to collect a lot of data.

“We experienced varied weather conditions on a very abrasive track at Jerez and encountered no problems, with generally positive feedback from the drivers,” explains Pirelli Motorsport Director Paul Hembery. From a tire point of view, the two tests in Barcelona will be more representative, as long as the weather remains favourable. The provision of our prototype “hard winter tire” compound – a test compound specially created for the occasion which rises in temperature very quickly – was clearly appreciated, as the drivers used it intensively. It’s clear that the new cars have already evolved a lot since 2014, and we expect further improvements before Melbourne in March. »

The car 2015 have accumulated 2294 laps in four days of testing, compared to 1470 completed in 2014.
