Following a triumphant final season in DTM, Paul di Resta changes path. The Scot joins the Force India team this season. Dario Franchitti's cousin will discover a championship that is the polar opposite of what he experienced last year, which leaves skeptics fearing a difficult acclimatization. But it is clear that the tests he carried out for Force India on Friday last year have already given him a certain idea of the rhythm and functioning of a F1. Moreover, the young Scot finished free practice just ahead of his experienced teammate, Adrian Sutil.
“It’s quite different, I can’t deny it, admits Paul di Resta. But F1 has always been my dream. This is the car I want to drive. You can't really compare. These are two very different levels. I was happy to drive in DTM with Mercedes. I spent four great years there. I think it prepared me, but this step is also a very big step and only time will tell how the transition goes. But so far, I feel very confident, very comfortable. I need to put in a lot of effort and work hard. »
However, di Resta already knows the world of single-seaters. Engaged in F3 Euro Series in 2006, he won the title after a fierce duel with his teammate at the time, a certain… Sebastian Vettel. Let us wish him a journey at least as glorious.
