Broadcasters: Red Bull wants clarification

From Montreal, the FIA project is clear: prohibit the operation of the blown diffuser during deceleration. This change in regulations should take place at the Silverstone GP, from July 8 to 10. To justify its decision, the FIA relies on the article of the regulations stipulating that the driver cannot act on the aerodynamics of his car. According to this reasoning, the exhaust gases cannot therefore be blown into the diffuser when the driver releases the accelerator.

In the paddocks, it is rumored that Red Bull, who masters this technique best, could have the most to lose from this change, particularly in qualifying. “I doubt that (the FIA project) penalizes us more, or less, than the other teams”, tempers Christian Horner on Autosport. com.

However, the director of the Austrian team will ask for clarification on the FIA project during the Technical Working Group which meets tomorrow in London: “In addition to the impact this directive will have, we would like to have clarification on the means used to implement it and how to interpret it. »

For the director of the Team Ferrari, Stefano Domenicali, the new regulation on blown diffusers could give rise to a second phase in the fight for the world championship: “We have to wait until Silverstone to know the real impact of this modification, he explains. Then we will see if there is a second championship in terms of performance, especially on circuits which require a lot of aerodynamic downforce. »
