Brawn GP double in Australia

The race:
Relégués en fond de grille les deux Toyota TF109 de Timo Glock et Jarno Trulli s?élancent des stands.

When the lights went out, Jenson Button (Brawn) got the best start while his teammate Rubens Barrichello (Brawn) struggled to extricate himself from his position. The author of the pole takes the first turn in the lead and completes the first lap in front Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull), Felipe Massa (Ferrari), Robert Kubica (BMW), Kimi Raïkkonen (Ferrari), Rubens Barrichello and Kazuki Nakajima (Williams).

The first lap duels forced some drivers to return to the pits: puncture for Nick Heidfeld (BMW), front wing to change for Adrian Sutil (Force India) and Mark Webber (Red Bull). Open front axle, Heikki Kovalainen (McLaren) is already forced to abandon.

Jenson Button begins to widen the gap but Sebastian Vettel reacts by setting the fastest lap in the race.

On the tenth lap, Nico Rosberg attacked and passed Kimi Raïkkonen to gain fifth position. Rubens Barrichello tries to imitate him but breaks two small parts of his front wing against the Ferrari. In the next corner, the Brazilian takes the advantage and Kimi Raïkkonen comes to the pits to get rid of his soft tires.

Felipe Masa, Lewis Hamilton and Robert Kubica follow to put on hard tires.

Sebastian Vettel enters on lap 16. The Red Bull driver puts on hard tires again and fills up with fuel. He comes out in second place. Nico Rosberg follows him but a problem with the left front wheel causes him to lose precious seconds.

The safety car enters the track after the exit of Kazuki Nakajima in turn 5. The Williams is destroyed but the Japanese manages to leave his car without injury.

Behind the Safety Car, Jenson Button (Brawn) occupies first place in the standings on the twentieth lap ahead of Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull), Felipe Massa (Ferrari), Robert Kubica (BMW), Kimi Raïkkonen (Ferrari), Nico Rosberg (Williams) , Nelson Piquet (Renault) and Jarno Trulli (Toyota).

The race is restarted on the 24th lap. Jenson Button sets the pace for the eighteen drivers still in the race. In the peloton, this flying start leads to new duels. Nelson Piquet exits at the first corner attempting an attack on Nico Rosberg. The Williams driver moved from fifth to ninth position after this maneuver.

At mid-race, Jenson Button is 3??1 ahead of Sebastian Vettel and 5??3 over Felipe Massa. Robert Kubica, Kimi Raïkkonen, Jarno Trulli, Rubens Barrichello and Sebastien Buemi follow. Hamilton is stuck in tenth place ahead Alonso. Sebastian Bourdais is 15th.

Second stop for Felipe Massa from the 31st of 58 laps. The Ferrari driver comes out in 14th place. Robert Kubica found himself third and attacked to set the best lap of the race during the 34th loop and improved again two laps later.

The Pole passes through the pits and comes out in seventh place, well ahead of Felipe Massa whose premature stop cost him around ten seconds.

Third stop for Kimi Raïkkonen, victim of a collision against a wall, fourteen laps from the finish. The Ferrari driver thus loses any chance of scoring any points.

Sebastian Vettel chose to pit before Jenson Button. The Red Bull driver defends his second position against Rubens Barrichello by returning to the track. With less than 28 seconds ahead, Jenson Button still has to go to the pits to fit soft tires.

Victim of a reliability problem, Felipe Massa finished his 36th lap in slow motion and retired.

Jenson Button refuels with eleven laps to go. The Brawn driver lost a little time but came out in first position ahead of Sebastian Vettel, 1??5 behind.

Third for a long time, Rubens Barrichello came through the pits seven laps from the finish, imitated by Fernando Alonso. The Brazilian comes fourth between Robert Kubica, third, and Nico Rosberg, fifth. The Renault driver is only ninth behind Timo Glock.

In a duel with Barrichello, Nico Rosberg can no longer defend his chances. The Williams driver lost more than three seconds per lap. Trulli, Hamilton, Glock, Alonso pass him. Rosberg comes out of points.

Three laps from the finish, Robert Kubica gets closer to Sebastian Vettel and attempts an attack to snatch second position. The two cars collide, race over.

The safety car comes out for the last three laps. Behind Button, Barrichello regains second position. Jarno Trulli follows ahead of Lewis Hamilton, Timo Glock, Fernando Alonso, Nico Rosberg and Sebastien Buemi who score their first points of the season.

Before entering the final straight, the safety car fades and Jenson Button takes the checkered flag under yellow flag.
