This Monday, the Strategic Group of F1 as well as the FIA F1 Commission met in Paris and validated a measure aimed at offering twice as many points at the last Grand Prix of the season " with immediate effect " (see here).
“Double points will be awarded to drivers and manufacturers during the Formula 1 season finale in order to maintain interest in the championship until the last race,” could we read in the FIA press release.
This decision was notably taken following the 2013 season in order to prevent a new domination like that of Sebastian Vettel. The German also declared to our colleagues at Bild that this decision “is absurd and punishes the drivers who have worked hard throughout the season. I believe that the leaders do not understand the traditions of Formula 1.

If this scale was already in place, two pilots Ferrari would have been titled. In 2008, Felipe Massa would have won against Lewis Hamilton while Fernando Alonso would have beaten Vettel in 2012…
