Ecclestone: Liberty Media should draw a line under the 2020 season

Bernie Ecclestone was not very optimistic about the 2020 season of F1 hit by the coronavirus pandemic. At 89 years old, the former director of the championship has never experienced such a situation and believes that Liberty Media has limited choices.

“What would I do today?” I would give up on the idea of racing this year. It's the only safe thing to do for everyone.", admitted the former F1 financier to Reuters agency.

Liberty Media still believes it will be able to offer a calendar made up of 15 to 18 races. Management will be difficult with the confirmed postponement of six races and the cancellation of two other events.

“I would be very surprised if they succeed, admitted Bernie Ecclestone. I really hope they succeed. They can run 3 or 4 races at the start of next year which still count towards the 2020 championship, but this will raise a number of problems with the teams but especially the promoters. »

In another interview with Independent, Bernie Ecclestone is even considering Liberty Media providing financial aid to promoters to enable the Grands Prix to take place. The 2021 technical regulations have already been postponed by a year due to the consequences of Covid-19.
