Ecclestone: Liberty Media wants to turn the page with me

Bernie Ecclestone may have worn the F1 for several decades, the former director of FOM was unable to retain his position with the takeover of the discipline by Liberty Media which placed a new group of people at the helm led by Chase Carey.

The 86-year-old British businessman does not show resentment towards the American media group, knowing too well the workings of such organizations.

" I could not do anything. Even the staff was instructed not to talk to me. They want to end the Bernie era. They probably think it will make me happy but it doesn't.", commented Bernie Ecclestone on Email.

“I have a different vision compared to others. Everyone wants to be in a restaurant where you can't get a table. This is why I was very strict with access to the paddock. Liberty's philosophy is more open. In American culture, anyone can go into the paddocks and pits and talk to the drivers. We created a 5-star Michelin restaurant, not a fast-food restaurant, but their cuisine is perhaps more accessible and perhaps even better”, added Mr. E.

Earlier in the week, Bernie Ecclestone had nevertheless expressed his regret at having been so quickly dismissed by Liberty Media.

“I would have asked them to work with me a little longer, to wait a year before knowing if it would work or not. However, you have to be pragmatic. They bring the car, they want to drive it”, Bernie declared on Sky Sports.

Liberty Media is particularly considering implementing a better distribution of income between the teams in order to prevent the peloton from declining.
