FP1: Rosberg leads the charge at Monza

Nico Rosberg (Mercedes) set the best time at Monza during the first practice session for the Italian Grand Prix. The winner of the Belgian GP set a time of 1'22''959 with the soft tires, ahead of his teammate by two tenths Lewis Hamilton.

The Ferrari are the closest to the W07 Hybrid, but Kimi Räikkönen and Sebastian Vettel finished more than a second late. Sergio Pérez (Force India) and Romain Grosjean (Haas) finished behind the SF 16-H after putting on the super soft tyres.

Valtteri Bottas (Williams) follows in seventh place ahead Max Verstappen (Red Bull), Esteban Gutiérrez (Haas) and Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull) which completes the top ten. Jenson Button (McLaren) follows in 11th position ahead of Alfonso Celis Jr (Force India) who replaced Nico Hulkenberg in this session.

Fernando Alonso (McLaren) finished 13th before having to pit due to a gearbox problem. Asturian precedes the future retiree Felipe Massa (Williams) who missed the first part of the session following a problem with his turbo.

Esteban Ocon (Manor) set the 18th fastest time, ahead of his teammate Pascal Wehrlein by more than three tenths. THE Renault by Jolyon Palmer and Kevin Magnussen finish at the bottom of the ranking.
