EL2: Hamilton takes the lead at Monza
Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) improved by a tenth the performance of Nico Rosberg achieved in the first free practice session of the Italian Grand Prix by completing a lap of Monza in 1'22''801 with the super soft tires this afternoon. The German stayed at the same pace, finishing two tenths behind the first W07 Hybrid.
The Ferrari remained closest to the Silver Arrows. Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Räikkönen finished around half a second behind the benchmark ahead of the Red Bull de Max Verstappen et Daniel Ricciardo separated by more than two tenths.
Valtteri Bottas (Williams) took eighth place ahead Romain Grosjean (Haas) who ranks again in the top ten, ahead of his teammate Esteban Gutiérrez by a tenth, only 14th.
Jenson Button (McLaren) completed the top ten, ahead of Felipe Massa (Williams). The Brazilian was only able to complete 20 laps following a gearbox problem. Esteban Ocon (Manor) was the victim of a mechanical problem, but the Frenchman was only able to cover 13 laps without having time to set a time with the red sidewall tires.
The final practice session for the Italian Grand Prix will be contested this Saturday, September 3 from 11 a.m. and will be followed live on Canal+ Sport.
