Leading the constructors' championship for the first time since 2013, Red-Bull confirms that it is the team in good form at the moment. Its two drivers monopolize the top of the timesheet, Perez signing the best time in front Verstappen. Carlos Sainz (Ferrari), also on a good series, completes the top 3 at 128 thousandths from the Mexican driver. Different destiny for Charles Leclerc. Despite a fourth place, the Monegasque driver crashed his Ferrari mid-session at turn 15 but his car did not seem too damaged having hit it from the front.

Pierre Gasly, still the first French driver, signs a 1.42.534 which allows him to climb into the top 5. A Friday day which can give him hope of a Q3 for tomorrow's qualifications. The rest of the top 10 is made up of Fernando Alonso, who seems to be getting a second lease of life this weekend, Giovinazzi (7th), Norris (8th) still behind in Azerbaijan, Or with (9th) and tsunoda (10th).

The surprise of the day: no Mercedes in the top 10. The German team seems to be trying adjustments and not focusing too much on pure speed. Lewis Hamilton climbs to 11th position, one second behind Perez. Bottas failed in 16th place, two seconds behind the best time. We will therefore have to wait until tomorrow to see the silver arrows play the leading roles.
Like this morning, many yellow flags were displayed on the Baku circuit. The session was even disrupted by a red flag following a technical problem for Latifs. The pilot Williams seems to have broken his gearbox and risks a penalty of 5 places on the grid on Sunday.
The drivers will now have one final session to adjust the settings and find performance, tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. (French time).
