EL3 – New record for Räikkönen

Kimi Räikkönen (Ferrari) signed the new official reference on the Spa-Francorchamps track by beating the previous record established by Jarno Trulli in 2009. With a 1’43”916, he is almost 2 tenths ahead of his teammate Sebastian Vettel. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) is third, a thousandth behind the German.

Max Verstappen place Red Bull in fourth place, more than a second behind the Finn. He brings Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) and Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull) behind him.

Jolyon Palmer (Renault) signs a surprising 7e place and the best performance in super-soft tires. He is ahead of Sergio Pérez (Force India) in 8e position and Carlos Sainz (Toro Rosso) relegated to 2 seconds from the best reference. Fernando Alonso (McLaren) is 10e while Esteban Ocon (Force India) and Romain Grosjean (Haas  F1) follow each other in 12th and 13th position respectively.

The track being wet at the start of the day, the first drivers came out on intermediate tires. With 25 minutes remaining, Daniil Kvyat was forced to stop his Toro Rosso in the middle of Kemmel Straight after an engine cutout.
