Depuis plusieurs semaines, les rumeurs de l’arrivée de Porsche en Formula 1 continue to make noise. If the announcement was to arrive on the sidelines of the Austrian Grand Prix in June, the postponement of the final decision by the World Automobile Council to finalize the 2026 engine regulations has pushed back the deadline. But this issue experienced a new twist this Wednesday, July 27. Legal documents from the Competition Council of Morocco revealed the existence of an agreement between Porsche and Red Bull.

According to this document, Porsche plans to buy half of the activities of Red Bull Technology Limited as well as a 10-year partnership in Formula 1 to “ the manufacture of a power unit (powertrain) ". So, obviously after the revelations, the Red Bull leaders could not escape the questions on the sidelines of the Hungarian Grand Prix.

« I think I have said many times that we are engaged in a constructive discussion with Porsche, recalls Christian Horner at the microphone of Sky Sports. Porsche coming into F1 would be a really positive thing, but there are so many reservations about it. There are regulations to be finalized. We are only at the very beginning of a process where discussions can begin. »

Christian Horner remains evasive on the arrival of Porsche

One of the main obstacles that Christian Horner talks about is obviously the 2026 engine regulations. As long as this is not validated, the Volkswagen group will certainly not enter Formula 1. It's not just that Porsche which is due to arrive. Audi is also strongly anticipated to make its arrival in Formula 1 with Alfa Romeo.

But before looking at the potential arrival of these two new German manufacturers in the premier discipline, Christian Horner wanted to underline the good state of form of the latest creation of the Austrian brand. “ Red Bull Powertrains is going from strength to strength. We have recruited other great talents, more announcements will come out soon and there are important hires in the team », Underlines the Briton. As a reminder, the Austrian team decided with the withdrawal of Honda to create an engine department in Milton Keynes.

« For us, it's a journey. Only time will tell where this takes us in the future and whether we need to take on a partner. But I think we are in great shape and can't wait to see exactly what these new regulations say on a sporting, technical and above all financial basis. “, says Christian Horner. If the British leader still remains quite evasive, the document published in Morocco provides for an officialization of the deal between Porsche and Red Bull, probably for August 4. And the German manufacturer should become the new partner of Red Bull Powertrains.
