Yet another controversy over Pirelli tires: Marko cannot be dismantled

Verbal dribbles on the Ile Notre-Dame playing field with, on one side, the Austrian striker, éminence grise of Red Bull Racing, known for her killer sentences. On the other, the subtle defender of Mercedes, also Austrian, who humorously deflects the most perfidious allusions.

“Unfortunately our cans do not come with tires, launched the first, almost accusing Mercedes of collusion with the manufacturer Pirelli. Who benefits from these stupid tire changes? Mercedes. Who came up with this idea to make these changes? Mercedes because they kept getting blisters. »

It was enough for the executive director of Mercedes to accuse his compatriot of inappropriate opportunism. “We have new tires every year, he retorted. Sometimes we understand them well or with more difficulty.

As competitors, we must do the best we can with what we are given. Pirelli's task is impossible. We ask them for tires that degrade to have strategies, but when they degrade, we ask them to last longer.

We must protect and support Pirelli in the task of giving a tire that fits everyone. This is what we do and we don't get distracted by pointless noise. »

Eraser in the center, and end of match whistled by Mario Isola, director of the Pirelli competition. “We have reduced the tread for safety reasons and that will not change this year. We will make changes for 2020 with the experience accumulated this year. » If the good doctor wanted a return to 2018 rubbers, it’s a failure.
