Esteban Ocon: “I am not here to stay behind Pérez”

Once the Hungarian Grand Prix has passed, Esteban Ocon completed the equivalent of a first season in F1 without any retirement and is the driver on the best run in 2017. Eighth in the championship, he scored points in all races except Monaco.

« You can’t predict success! We respect our objectives established at the start of the season, namely to score points in each race, explains the Frenchman. And that's what I do. »

Far from his teammate during the first three meetings, the arrival in Europe revealed Ocon as a challenger to Sergio Pérez with 5 more years of experience in F1.

« I have to work really hard! I have less experience than Sergio (Pérez) so I have to acquire a lot of details which come naturally to him. Before and after each race, I am mainly at the factory doing the simulator. I think that's what makes the big difference."

After a start to the season where he only beat the Mexican once in a race without abandoning in Great Britain, the Frenchman wants to be at the front more often and in front of his teammate.

« I'm not here to stay behind him all the time. I want to attack, and a lot."

Esteban Ocon is 11 points behind Sergio Perez ahead of him in the general classification of the world championship.
