Esteban Ocon on the momentum from Montreal to Baku?

“Esteban is getting closer and closer to Sergio. We now have two drivers who push each other to give their best. » This sentence signed Otmar Szafnauer, sporting director of Force India, says a lot about the level reached since the start of the season by Esteban Ocon.

In Canada, the Frenchman could have tried to play for the podium, but his Mexican teammate did not offer the Norman the opportunity to fight with the Red Bull de Daniel Ricciardo. Ocon, however, remained satisfied with the overall performance of Vijay Mallya's team.

« It was another weekend where the team did a fantastic job improving the cars, says the former European champion of F3. It was great to be in the fight for a podium and see how competitive we are. »

The Pérez example?

For the first event in the streets of Baku last year, then called the European Grand Prix, Force India stood out with second place in qualifying for Sergio Pérez behind Nico Rosberg (Mercedes). A position converted to seventh following a penalty for gearbox change, before the former driver McLaren only gets on the podium on Sunday.

Enough to give Esteban Ocon ideas for the 2017 edition. « It looks like we have a very good understanding of how to get the most out of this car, explains the Mercedes protégé.

This is another new track for me, but I will continue to try to learn as quickly as possible and I am sure I can get into the rhythm quickly.
