F1: 25 points for the winner

The victory bonus, which was almost introduced at the start of the 2009 season, finally came into force. Not by the designation of the world champion based on the number of victories, but by a new distribution of points. While 39 units were divided between eight drivers in 2009, next season ten drivers will share 95 points. Indeed, the World Motor Sport Council approved the Commission's proposal F1.

The drivers who get on the podium will have an advantage, with a significant increase in the number of points. The winner will collect 25 units, the second 20, the third fifteen. Drivers ranked fourth to tenth will receive the following number of points respectively: 10, 8, 6, 5, 3, 2, 1.

With such a distribution, the FIA wants more drivers to be able to score points, due to the increase in the field. Indeed, instead of twenty cars, like this season, twenty-six single-seaters will be at the start of the Grands Prix in 2010. In the context of the economic crisis affecting the automobile sector, the International Federation wishes to reward the teams which will be able to enter the top 10 occasionally, in order to encourage the less prominent teams to continue their efforts.
