F1-EL1: Max Verstappen first reference in Mexico

The drivers discovered the new layout of the Hermanos Rodriguez circuit which hosts the Mexican GP by setting off on a drying track offering very little grip. Although the tires held up well, the brakes seemed to be in high demand on this track with long straight lines. Nico Rosberg (Mercedes) notably had to return to the pits after his rear discs caught fire.

Max Verstappen (Toro Rosso) achieved the best time of the first practice session with a lap completed in 1'25"990 on this 4,304km circuit. But the Dutchman achieved this performance by cutting a corner, without his time being withdrawn.

Daniil Kvyat (Red Bull) and Kimi Räikkönen (Ferrari) finished tied, pointing three tenths from the reference. Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) follows in fourth position ahead Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull) and Nico Rosberg who was able to get back on the track after his incident. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) was satisfied with 11th fastest time.

The second practice session for the Mexican GP will be contested this evening from 21 p.m. (French time) and will be followed live on Canal+ Sport.
