The rain had invited itself to the party in Italy before this third and final free practice session on the track of Monza. Although the sky was clement upon passing the green light, the drivers nevertheless mounted the intermediate tires to start the day.
The times finally fell as the session progressed, while the drivers were able to put on slicks again. Like yesterday, Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) dominated the proceedings, with a best time established in 1'24 "544, but saw the Ferrari de Sebastian Vettel to climb into second position, 264 thousandths behind his W06 Hybrid.
Nico Rosberg (Mercedes) finishes in the wake of the four-time world champion and precedes both Williams de Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa who are returning to qualifying as usual. Pastor Maldonado (Lotus) ranks sixth ahead of Kimi Räikkönen (Ferrari), Sergio Pérez (Force India), Marcus Ericsson (Sauber) and Romain Grosjean (Lotus) which completes the top 10.
