This Tifone trophy is a unique sculpture created by Italian artist Ruth Beraha, inspired both by Greek mythology and by the shape of a car's exhaust pipes. Formula 1. Typhon is a mythological figure, the giant son of Gaia, who is traditionally characterized by his extraordinary strength and the 100 serpents coiled around his head, symbolizing a shocking personification of nature.

The trophy was commissioned by Pirelli and the contemporary art space Pirelli Hangar Bicocca. It represents a fusion between an idea of the artist and a production process that unites cutting-edge technology and robotics such as cutting and 3D production, as well as the work of artisans specialized in welding, polishing, assembly and gilding. The final result does not lack elegance and contrasts sharply with traditional ear-cuts!

“When I started studying Formula 1, I immediately realized that technology was an integral part of the sport, said Ruth Beraha.  I wanted to pay homage to that, and so I found a visual element in the car that I could use as a starting point. I chose the exhaust pipes, which had an extremely organic shape. From these pipes, I could imagine the snakes. The trophy is like a tame creature the moment the winner of the race holds it, but still threatening and still capable of overthrowing everything.”

This is the third time that Pirelli and Pirelli HangarBicocca have chosen a modern Italian artist to create the trophy for a Grand Prix held in Italy, strengthening the tangible links between modern creativity and perpetual innovation in Formula 1. In 2021, the order was awarded to Alice Ronchi, while in 2022 Patrick Tuttofuoco created the trophy.

Tifone will be revealed during the first free practice session on Friday at 13:30 p.m. Your opinion ?
