Ferrari: developments but no hope for Sochi

The SF1000 will have some small aerodynamic improvements in Russia. Not enough to change the face of the world.

Ferrari: developments but no hope for Sochi

While the 2020 campaign turns each race weekend a little more like Bérézina for the Red Army of Maranello, the Scuderia will present itself at the Russian Grand Prix with small changes to try to improve an SF1000 unworthy of a thousand-year-old institution.

If the fans entertained the slightest dream of a return to respectability, General Mattia Binotto unfortunately took it upon himself to nip any hope in the bud. “ These are small novelties but they will not change the overall situation, warned the head of Gestione Sportiva. We lack pace in the race and wear the tires too much. The developments will not address these issues. We have to review the different projects in preparation for the 2021 season. I think it will take a little more time ».

Its sports director Laurent Mekies explains that these “ small aerodynamic developments » have the objective “ to offer a basis of development for the next new products ”, without much more detail.

Ferrari has a narrow margin of maneuver since the 2021 technical regulations only authorize a very limited number of modifications to the chassis, governed by a token system. The only potential glimmer of hope at the heart of this rout as long as a day without bread, the introduction next year of a new Italian engine whose first results on the bench have proven promising, says Binotto. But what credence can be given to such remarks in view of the current procrastination?
