Ferrari: “judicious solutions” on the SF1000

Ferrari unveiled its new SF1000 during a superb sound and light show at the Teatro municipale in Reggio Emilia, Italy, this Tuesday evening. Regulatory stability requires, the latest of the workshops Maranello is a logical evolution of the SF90 which took 9 pole positions in 2019 but only gleaned a trio of victories.

« It's difficult to reinvent the car, recognized Mattia Binotto, Ferrari team principal during the launch ceremony. We have developed the concepts of the SF90 to the extreme.

We designed the car to generate as much aero performance as possible, seeking to maximize downforce levels. The elements of the car – the monocoque, the layout of the powertrain, the gearbox – were assembled to have a very refined rear end. I think it's quite visible.

We have worked on all the components, the suspension has been designed to offer greater flexibility on the track as well as in terms of settings and to suit the tastes of the drivers depending on the circuits ».

Ferrari hasn't been idle on the engine side either. An area where the Scuderia has nevertheless taken the advantage over Mercedes in 2019, even if the doubts surrounding the Italian booster did not fail to fuel the column in the second half of the season. Binotto also suggested that Ferrari had to adapt to the new oil consumption limit, which goes from 0,6 L to 0,3 L per 100 km in 2020.

« We worked on the engine, not only for reasons of layout or performance but also to adapt to the 50% drop in the oil consumption limit., added the Italian. The SF1000 may look a lot like its predecessor, believe me, it's completely different with a lot of concepts taken to the extreme ».

Sebastian Vettel, which is entering its 6th campaign in red, for its part welcomed “ wise solutions » applied to give birth to a car that will attempt to end a 12-year championship drought for Ferrari.
