Ferrari launched this Monday the 2021 and 2022 Pirelli tire tests in the south of Spain. These rolls aim to help the Milan firm develop the 18-inch envelopes which will be introduced next year in Formula 1 and will be part of a major overhaul of the discipline.
These new generation tires should have entered the track this season but the health crisis decided otherwise. While in recent years Pirelli had 25 days of annual testing to develop its products, this number was increased to 30 after a unanimous vote at the last meeting of the F1 Commission.
Charles Leclerc was in action against Jerez de la Frontera this Monday. On an artificially hardened circuit, the Monegasque was able to test the intermediate prototypes of the transalpine manufacturer. Leclerc finished this opening day with 110 laps on the clock.
The 2021 and 2022 Pirelli tests will resume this Tuesday, still in Andalusia.
