Realistic Ferrari: “This part of the season which is beginning promises to be complicated”

Few followers would have bet on a second place for Carlos Sainz Jr in the streets of Monaco. Not because of any lack of talent on the part of the Spaniard, but rather because of the checkered performances of the Ferrari SF21 this spring.

Also, the Madrilenian prefers to be cautious before boarding for Baku (Azerbaijan), scene of the next event (June 4-6). « Mercedes et Red Bull still have the advantage over us and it will be very delicate for us to interfere in the fight for poles or victoriess ", he declared to the official website of the F1.

If the Scuderia was at ease on the Rock, it is therefore not guaranteed to see it again at such a party according to the son of the three-time Dakar winner. “Look at the characteristics of the Monaco circuit and try to compare them to other tracks. You won't find many (similar) layouts. And even if we find some, that doesn't mean that we will necessarily be at the forefront. »

His boss Mattia Binotto thinks no less. “There will be circuits with slow corners where we could be competitive (like the Hungaroring. Editor’s note) but this is not a guarantee. »

The manager of the track activity, Laurent Mekies, wants to be even more “cash”. “This part of the season which will begin (this week) promises to be complicated for us. If in Spain the Ferrari was clearly your third force, and in Monaco we showed the potential to win, the situation will be different from Baku”, announces the Frenchman.

« We expect that McLaren be very successful in Baku. This team should take the lead in the chasing group behind the two teams competing for the title. We also think thatAlpine, Alpha Tauri et Aston Martin will be quick. » This is not very optimistic...
