Just before the first free practice session, Charles Leclerc decided to change almost all of its engine components, with the exception of its turbocharger, which would have earned it an engine penalty in the event of a change. As mentioned at the press conference, the pilot Ferrari wanted to delay as long as possible its decision whether or not to receive an engine penalty.
Finally, a few minutes after free practice session 2, the FIA formalized the installation of a third CE (Control electronics) on the car No. 16, while the initial allocation of this compound is limited to two for the season. He will therefore receive a ten-place penalty on the grid on Sunday, which could be further increased if he finally also implements a new turbocharger.
