Gascoyne: Victory takes time

Lotus Racing clearly presented itself as the best of the new teams this season. Led by Tony Fernandes, the Malaysian businessman has surrounded himself with competent and experienced people, both in terms of drivers (with Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen) and engineers (with Mike Gascoyne).

Even if the Malaysian team did not manage to materialize its performance by scoring points, it gave itself time to progress. Mike Gascoyne, the technical director of Lotus Racing, knows from his experience that a new team takes time to set up and progress to get up to the level of the best.

“If you take the example of Red Bull who has just won his first Championship, it took them seven years since the creation of the team,” commented Mike Gascoyne on paultan.org. “It was initially a Jaguar team, which then became a Stewart team? She had to wait five years before becoming a winning team? We have made a good start, but we are only at the beginning of the journey. »

Lotus Racing is therefore proceeding step by step and aiming for more ambitious but realistic objectives for 2011. “I think our objectives are very clear,” continued the technical director of the Malaysian team. “We are targeting the teams located between sixth and ninth place. Williams, Force India, Toro Rosso, Sauber. We're probably a second away from that group and I think we can close that gap. We are aiming for seventh or eighth place in the Championship. This would be tremendous progress. »

Mike Gascoyne is aware that the top places on the grid will require time and constant effort. But with a united and experienced team, Mike Gascoyne hopes to see his team continue its progress on the same upward slope. Lotus Racing will have its own wind tunnel within two years and will then be able to dream of better results.
