Gasly damaged his suit because of the Halo

Made compulsory this season for safety reasons, the Halo requires some contortions to enter and exit the cars, with a regulatory extraction time increased from 5 to 7 seconds.

If many voices have called for an end to the debate regarding its introduction, the device remains on everyone's lips in these first days of winter testing in Barcelona. Several pilots admitted that they had to play a bit of acrobats to get on board their mount. An exercise that the clothing equipment of gasly clearly didn't like it.

« It's still a hell of a mess getting in and out of the car, confided the Frenchman on the evening of his first day of driving with the Honda-powered STR13. I think my wetsuit is already damaged, I'm going to have to plan a lot this season. It's my first day of testing and I already have several holes in my back because you have to lean backwards to slide into the cockpit. It's a pretty strange feeling. With the aero fairings and other fins, you can't really lean on the Halo to get out. But hey, this remains anecdotal. It's just that I preferred the old single-seaters. »

Gasly acknowledges, however, that the system has no impact on vision from the cockpit.

« Visibility is the same as before, added the 22-year-old Norman. Obviously, you see something above you, which is a little curious. But when you start driving, you are focused on what you are doing and you no longer pay attention to it. »
